Sarah Chen's interconnected narratives in The Weight of Silence hit me right in the chest. As someone who deployed twice, reading about the home front experience from the family perspective gave me a whole new appreciation for what my wife carried while I was gone. The chapter on the empty chair at Thanksgiving actually made me tear up. Essential reading for military families.
